No trust in ceasefire: Ukrainian intelligence warns Russian threat remains

Ukraine does not believe in the ceasefire proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The threat from Russia remains, stated Yevhen Yerin, a representative of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
Russian propaganda ahead of May 9
Yerin noted that, as usual, ahead of May 8 and 9, Russia actively spreads historical myths about the "great victory in the Great Patriotic War." According to him, the Russian government is trying to rewrite history and replace reality for its citizens. It also broadcasts this propaganda to other countries around the world.
He emphasized that the Kremlin continues to operate based on guidelines developed over decades. Russian narratives are built around ideas of Russia’s uniqueness, chosen status, and claims that it was Russia that won World War II.
"They actively push the idea that the whole world is their enemy and only they are resisting. This once again underlines their adherence to the ideology of 'rashism,'" Yerin explained.
He added that the only way to counter this is by spreading the truth, both about World War II and about the current war.
What to expect from Russia on May 9
"The threat from the occupying country from a military standpoint is always present. Because despite the statements made by Russian propagandists and those voicing their official position, there is no trust in their words," Yerin emphasized.
He clarified that Ukraine must be ready for things to unfold differently than what the Russian authorities claim.
Putin's ceasefire
Russian President Vladimir Putin unilaterally declared a ceasefire with Ukraine from May 8 to 10.
Nevertheless, hostilities continue. Since the beginning of the day, Russia has already dropped nearly 100 guided aerial bombs on the Sumy region.
Against this backdrop, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized that Putin’s ceasefire turned out to be a farce.
